Job 16:18–22 — English Standard Version (ESV)
18 “O earth, cover not my blood,
and let my cry find no resting place.
19 Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven,
and he who testifies for me is on high.
20 My friends scorn me;
my eye pours out tears to God,
21 that he would argue the case of a man with God,
as a son of man does with his neighbor.
22 For when a few years have come
I shall go the way from which I shall not return.
Job 16:18–22 — King James Version (KJV 1900)
18 O earth, cover not thou my blood, And let my cry have no place. 19 Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, And my record is on high. 20 My friends scorn me: But mine eye poureth out tears unto God. 21 O that one might plead for a man with God, As a man pleadeth for his neighbour! 22 When a few years are come, Then I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
Job 16:18–22 — New Living Translation (NLT)
18 “O earth, do not conceal my blood.
Let it cry out on my behalf.
19 Even now my witness is in heaven.
My advocate is there on high.
20 My friends scorn me,
but I pour out my tears to God.
21 I need someone to mediate between God and me,
as a person mediates between friends.
22 For soon I must go down that road
from which I will never return.
Job 16:18–22 — The New King James Version (NKJV)
18 “O earth, do not cover my blood,
And let my cry have no resting place!
19 Surely even now my witness is in heaven,
And my evidence is on high.
20 My friends scorn me;
My eyes pour out tears to God.
21 Oh, that one might plead for a man with God,
As a man pleads for his neighbor!
22 For when a few years are finished,
I shall go the way of no return.
Job 16:18–22 — New Century Version (NCV)
18 “Earth, please do not cover up my blood.
Don’t let my cry ever stop being heard!
19 Even now I have one who speaks for me in heaven;
the one who is on my side is high above.
20 The one who speaks for me is my friend.
My eyes pour out tears to God.
21 He begs God on behalf of a human
as a person begs for his friend.
22 “Only a few years will pass
before I go on the journey of no return.
Job 16:18–22 — American Standard Version (ASV)
18 O earth, cover not thou my blood,
And let my cry have no resting-place.
19 Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven,
And he that voucheth for me is on high.
20 My friends scoff at me:
But mine eye poureth out tears unto God,
21 That he would maintain the right of a man with God,
And of a son of man with his neighbor!
22 For when a few years are come,
I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
Job 16:18–22 — 1890 Darby Bible (DARBY)
18 O earth, cover not my blood, and let there be no place for my cry! 19 Even now, behold, my Witness is in the heavens, and he that voucheth for me is in the heights. 20 My friends are my mockers; mine eye poureth out tears unto †God. 21 Oh that there were arbitration for a man with †God, as a son of man for his friend! 22 For years few in number shall pass, —and I shall go the way whence I shall not return.
Job 16:18–22 — GOD’S WORD Translation (GW)
18 “Earth, don’t cover my blood.
Don’t ever let my cry ⸤for justice⸥ be stopped.
19 Even now, look! My witness is in heaven,
and the one who testifies for me is above,
20 the spokesman for my thoughts.
My eyes drip ⸤with tears⸥ to God
22 because in a few short years I will take the path of no return.
21 But my witness will plead for a human in front of God.
The Son of Man will plead for his friend!
Job 16:18–22 — The Holman Christian Standard Bible (HCSB)
18 Earth, do not cover my blood;
may my cry for help find no resting place.
19 Even now my witness is in heaven,
and my advocate is in the heights!
20 My friends scoff at me
as I weep before God.
21 I wish that someone might arbitrate
between a man and God
just as a man pleads for his friend.
22 For only a few years will pass
before I go the way of no return.
Job 16:18–22 — The New Revised Standard Version (NRSV)
18 “O earth, do not cover my blood;
let my outcry find no resting place.
19 Even now, in fact, my witness is in heaven,
and he that vouches for me is on high.
20 My friends scorn me;
my eye pours out tears to God,
21 that he would maintain the right of a mortal with God,
as one does for a neighbor.
22 For when a few years have come,
I shall go the way from which I shall not return.
Job 16:18–22 — The Lexham English Bible (LEB)
18 “O earth, you should not cover my blood,
and let there be no place for my cry for help.
19 So now look, my witness is in the heavens,
and he who vouches for me is in the heights.
20 My friends scorn me;
my eye pours out tears to God,
21 and it argues for a mortal with God,
and as a human for his friend.
22 Indeed, after a few years have come,
then I will go the way from which I will not return.
Job 16:18–22 — New International Reader’s Version (1998) (NIrV)
18 “Earth, please don’t cover up my blood!
May God always hear my cry for help!
19 Even now my witness is in heaven.
The one who speaks up for me is there.
20 My go-between is my friend
as I pour out my tears to God.
21 He makes his appeal to God to help me
as a man begs someone to help his friend.
22 “Only a few years will pass by.
Then I’ll go on a journey I won’t return from.
Job 16:18–22 — New American Standard Bible: 1995 Update (NASB95)
18 “O earth, do not cover my blood,
And let there be no resting place for my cry.
19 “Even now, behold, my witness is in heaven,
And my advocate is on high.
20 “My friends are my scoffers;
My eye weeps to God.
21 “O that a man might plead with God
As a man with his neighbor!
22 “For when a few years are past,
I shall go the way of no return.
